Pellet Therapy

by

Jaime Rios

Pellet therapy is an emerging delivery method for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), growing in popularity because of its safety and effectiveness. Methods of BHRT delivery range from topical creams to pills and injections, but unlike these delivery methods, pellet therapy offers unparalleled convenience and little to no side effects.

Pellet therapy is available in two forms: bioidentical testosterone and bioidentical estrogen. Both forms are derived from plant sources, such as soy or yams, and custom-compounded as prescribed by your physician to ideally meet your body’s needs.

The Benefits of Pellet Therapy

Pellet therapy has been shown to reduce or eliminate symptoms of hormone imbalance including:

  • Mood swings*
  • Fatigue*
  • Weight gain*
  • Muscle Loss*
  • Low sex drive*
  • Brain fog*
  • Memory loss*
  • Poor concentration*

Pellet therapy offers a number of advantages over traditional forms of bioidentical hormone therapy. First, pellets are inserted during a short, in-office visit and last three to five months, depending on the patient. Following insertion, the pellet is slowly metabolized by the body, releasing a steady dose of hormone throughout the treatment cycle. This method of delivery avoids dosing errors (applying too little or too much), missed doses and the subsequent peaks and crashes in hormone levels.

Pellet insertion is virtually painless, a fact that brings relief to men whose testosterone therapy cycles require those agonizing intramuscular injections. Insertion begins with numbing the site of incision, generally the upper hip area, with a local anesthesia. The pellet is then carefully inserted and the wound is sealed with a piece of medical tape. Some patients may experience redness and swelling at the insertion site, but this is often minimal and dissipates within a few hours with proper adherence to post-procedure protocols.

Testosterone Pellet Therapy for Men and Women

Testosterone pellet therapy is available for both men and women. It provides all of the benefits of testosterone therapy without many of the risks or side effects classically observed with pills, creams, gels or injections.

Testosterone pellet therapy promotes optimal health and improves quality of life factors for men and women including:

  • Increased libido, including enhanced sensation and performance*
  • Increased ability to lose fat and build muscle*
  • Fewer mood swings*
  • Increased ability to focus and concentrate*
  • Improved drive and determination*
  • Improved bone density*
  • Lower risk of certain diseases*
