Cognitive Impairment and Memory Loss in Men

by Offain Gunasekara May 5, 2020

There’s nothing wrong with the occasional forgotten name, but when memory loss starts to affect your life on a day to day basis, a hormonal or metabolic abnormality may be to blame. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, men are at greater risk of developing age-related cognitive impairments that often cause memory loss and make it difficult to concentrate. Although conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia generally affect men age 65 and older, as the years progress, more and more men are experiencing cognitive impairments earlier and earlier in their lives—some as young as 30-years-old.

If you’re over the age of 35 and suffering from memory loss, foggy thinking, and difficulty concentrating, now may be the best time to get your hormones tested to determine whether or not a hormonal imbalance is the culprit. Tens of thousands of men have overcome foggy thinking associated with hormonal imbalance as well as other symptoms related to andropause, thyroid disorder and adrenal fatigue, using bioidentical hormone replacement therapy integrated with regular exercise and balanced nutrition.

What Causes Memory Loss?

When you are young, your testosterone levels helped regulate the production of the stress hormone cortisol, which in turn affects the function of neurotransmitters (chemicals used for communication) in the brain. As testosterone levels decline, as is common in andropause, the testosterone cannot effectively regulate cortisol. As a result, neurotransmitters begin to malfunction, causing these momentary lapses in memory. Often, men begin to notice memory loss during the early stages of andropause when the production of testosterone begins to naturally decrease. In fact, men have a greater likelihood of developing cognitive impairments than women do and generally experience symptoms at an earlier age than women do.

The Solution

Foggy thinking and difficulty concentrating are common signs of hormonal imbalances and often mirror a prelude of andropausal symptoms yet to come. Memory loss can be debilitating and frustrating, having a direct impact on every aspect of your life. Loss of memory is not just a part of life you have to learn to cope with; there are ways of lifting the fog and getting on the path to living a healthier and happier life.

A customized nutrition plan and targeted supplement regimen, in conjunction with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy may be the key to sharpening your mind.
