About David Smithson, M.D.

Owner and operator of BodyLogicMD of Birmingham, David Smithson, M.D. dedicates his Alabama-based bioidentical hormones practice to helping women and men overcome health challenges brought on by aging, such as perimenopause, menopause, andropause (the male menopause), thyroid disorder and adrenal fatigue. Dr. Smithson uses bioidentical hormone therapy, integrated with customized fitness and nutrition regimens to help his patients find relief from symptoms of hormonal imbalance such as low libido, weight gain, menopause, hot flashes, depression, irritability and mood swings.

Dr. Smithson’s decision to transition into integrative and regenerative medicine was a natural result of his passion for health, fitness and sports medicine. Dr. Smithson is devoted to helping his patients regain their vitality, by using a combination of bioidentical hormones, vitamins, minerals and balanced nutrition.

Dr. David Smithson received his undergraduate degree at the University of Mississippi in 1975, and completed his doctorate at the University of Oklahoma in 1980. After completing his Internship at Baptist Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee in 1981, Dr. Smithson fulfilled his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Oklahoma’s Tulsa Medical College in 1990. Dr. Smithson completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship in 1994 in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Smithson is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Sports Medicine. Dr. Smithson also served as a Team Physician for the Auburn University Athletic Department from 1994 through 1996. Dr. Smithson served as an Internal Medicine representative to the Sports Medicine examination committee in 2002 and 2003 and helped to write the Sports Medicine National Board Exam.

At your hour-long initial consultation, your BodyLogicMD physician will meet with you personally to discuss your symptoms, review your results and talk through the appropriate treatment to meet your individualized needs. Our highly experienced physicians undergo hundreds of hours of training in bioidentical hormones and have helped thousands of women and men suffering the symptoms of hormone imbalance.

Finally, if necessary, your BodyLogicMD physician will prescribe the customized compounded bioidentical hormones and other pharmacy-grade supplements for your personalized program. The compounding pharmacy will contact you and send these directly to your home or office as you request.
