October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
BodyLogicMD Physicians Balance Hormones to Reduce Risk of Breast Cancer
Boca Raton, FL - October 2009 - October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) and BodyLogicMD's highly trained physicians specializing in bioidentical hormones are encouraging women and men to monitor their breast health closely, as a key component in their plan for optimal overall health and wellness.
The National Cancer Institute reports 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with cancer of the breast in their lifetime. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was put into motion to increase awareness about breast health, ensure quality care for breast cancer victims and to save lives by raising money through various charities and non-profit organizations to fund ongoing scientific research into a possible cure.
According to bioidentical hormone expert and BodyLogicMD Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jennifer Landa, women whose hormone levels are balanced - including estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, insulin, thyroid, and cortisol - may have a more stable environment for their breast cells. This may limit excess growth and potentially reduce the risk of breast cancer. At the very least, it is important that all women are aware of their hormone levels, especially estrogen and progesterone.
BodyLogicMD's three-pronged approach to balanced hormones incorporates all natural bioidentical hormones integrated with customized nutrition and fitness programs including stress reduction techniques.
"One of the most important steps we can take in reducing the risk of breast cancer is to incorporate stress reduction techniques into our day to day lives. When excessive amounts of cortisol are released into our blood, our delicate interplay of hormones is disturbed. "Taking fifteen to twenty minutes before you start the hustle and bustle of the day to do some stretching and breathing will make all the difference in your overall cortisol production." Says Dr. Landa.
"Awareness is key to your overall preventive health care routine. Playing an active role in keeping your body, mind, and spirit balanced throughout the year is the most effective way to ward off diseases like breast cancer." Said Dr. Landa.
