Depression.  Chronic fatigue.  Heart rhythm irregularities.  Insomnia.  Loss of appetite. Weight gain, in spite of little appetite! Non-existent libido.

At 53-years of age I felt like my life was over. Years of stress combined with the “normal” aging process had wreaked havoc on my body, mind, and soul.  Unbeknownst to me, a trip to New York City to visit some dear friends in October 2006 would be the beginning of an incredible turn around for me.  The wife of my dear friend was concerned with my mental state, my inability to think clearly, and the obvious fatigue I was experiencing.

She had some experience in nutrition and psychology and had recently heard some wonderful stories about bioidentical hormone therapy.  She recommended I see Dr. Roger Garcia at BodyLogicMD in Columbus, Ohio, about three hours from my home.

In December 2006 I began bioidentical hormone therapy.  Within six weeks I began experiencing a major turn around.  I could sleep.  My energy levels were up.  The depression began to lift and I could think clearly again.  I was beginning to feel like myself again.  With the increased energy levels I could begin a regular exercise routine again, and actually began building lean muscle mass and losing a very stubborn layer of abdominal fat that had been building for a number of years.  I had my life back again! My wife, my children, and my grandchildren were thrilled to see me emerge from my “dark night of the soul.”  I was alive again.

I am now approaching the two-year mark since beginning hormone replacement therapy. It will be a part of my daily routine and life from now on. The stress levels of my vocation have not diminished, but my capacity and ability to deal with all the demands has greatly increased.  I greatly enjoy biking and have ridden almost 1,200 miles this riding season. Morning prayer and meditation, a regular stretching routine, and a good combination of aerobic and weight bearing exercises, focusing on eating the proper foods, AND my daily hormone replacement therapy and supplements have all added up to a BRAND NEW ME!
