Proper Nutrition
Your Custom Prescription for Health Starts from the Inside.
BodyLogicMD's nutrition philosophy for functional and preventive medicine consists of a three-pronged approach including bioidentical hormone therapy, nutrition and fitness. Our bioidentical hormones physicians offer the best possible dietary counseling and supplements as a part of their natural hormone therapy programs. This integrated approach has helped many of our patients find relief from the symptoms of hormonal imbalances including menopause, andropause, adrenal fatigue, and thyroid disorders.
Balance is important throughout your body, not just for your hormones. It is essential to keep the vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants at a higher level to help fight off the free-radicals caused by aging and any imbalance in your hormones, and to help with other problems with your blood sugar, thyroid, or adrenals. We offer state-of-the-art nutritional lab testing as well as pharmaceutical grade vitamins and supplements to compliment our preventive programs to help in balancing your hormones.
BodyLogicMD Nutrition Philosophy
Your customized nutrition program is absolutely integral to the success of your overall treatment; this is because the foods you eat affect your hormones. Your body relies on many vitamins and minerals to help produce and manage your hormones and there are numerous interactions between your diet and your hormones. Your body needs good nutrition to assist and maintain hormonal balance. It also works the other way around; unbalanced hormones can cause cravings (for example, the stress hormone, cortisol) and alter your metabolism, causing weight gain.
Good nutrition will not only help preserve hormone balance, but is also a vital component to weight loss. Weight loss is a simple ratio: calories in versus calories out. You must eat less than you burn in order to achieve weight loss. When it comes to losing weight, there is no such thing as a diet, there is only proper nutrition. There is no quick fix, no magic pill, no instant remedy, but there is a way. It's time to make a lifestyle change and make different choices when deciding what to eat. Our bodies are like machines, when we're not giving them the right fuel, they don't function optimally. In addition to having balanced hormones, you must eat properly and incorporate more physical activity in your daily routine in order to lose weight or maintain an ideal weight. Our primary concern at BodyLogicMD is to balance your hormones, weight loss will often occur naturally in the process.
The Simple Rules
The rules are simple, in fact, they may sound like something your grandmother might have told you.
- Eat five portion controlled meals a day. So in addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner, have a snack between lunch and dinner, and a small snack before bed.
- During your meals, your plate should be 1/3 protein (white meat: chicken, turkey, fish, soy, eggs, and lean pork) and 2/3 colored vegetables (any vegetable that is colored, not white, all the way through). Add a sprinkle of olive oil, canola oil, or almonds for your fat.
- Avoid sugar and sweet snacks. If it says "low fat" or "instant" on the package, put it back.
- Eat all your vegetables and two hard fruits (if it crunches when you eat it, it's GOOD FOR YOU!) every day.
- Have a tablespoon of cod liver oil (fish oil) every day.
- Drink lots of water.
Your BodyLogicMD affiliated physician will provide nutritional support and dietary counseling as part of your functional medicine program. It's time to get healthy - from the inside out.
Only as Strong as the Weakest Link
"Nutrition can be compared with a chain in which all essential items are separate links. We know what happens if one link of a chain is weak or is missing. The whole chain falls apart."
- Patrick Wright, Ph.D.
Starting Fresh
"It is so wonderful to know I am on a path to not only recovery from the adrenal insufficiency and food intolerances, but also to better health. I am detoxifying my body and reducing inflammation, which I know contributes to chronic disease and aging. I was very impressed with Dr. Lee of BodyLogicMD Miami and how I was treated at each visit. As a doctor myself living in Miami, Florida, I have high standards, and it was hard for me to seek help from another physician. He listens, is knowledgeable, and treated me appropriately. I would recommend Dr. Lee highly to anyone who needs help with hormonal imbalance issues."
