The Estrogen Dilemma
The Estrogen Dilemma | April, 2010

Hormone therapy, specifically Estrogen therapy, was recently researched by Cynthia Gorney in the NY Times in an article, published under the title: "The Estrogen Dilemma."
Gorney discusses her quest to find out the truth about bioidentical hormone therapy. Her conclusion: The benefits of hormone therapy outweigh any risk that might exist. Presently, there is no evidence that can support claims that a woman in her 40's and 50's will suffer any adverse effects. In addition to helping curb the symptoms of menopause, hormone therapy can also protect the heart and brain from a variety of health challenges.
The article mentions the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) studies that came to a screeching hault in 2002 and how the misrepresented findings caused a number of women to fear estrogen-based therapies. However, in time it was discovered that the studies? participants consisted largely of women who were far beyond their menopausal years and the study used synthetic hormones.
On the contrary, bioidentical hormone therapy has helped tens of thousands of women overcome symptoms of menopause enjoy a better overall quality of life. Bioidentical hormones are compounded from natural plant products and customized to be molecularly identical to the hormones that the body produces naturally. Additionally, bioidentical hormone therapy is most effective during the early stages of menopause.
