According to an article published by Health Day News, the chemicals that women are exposed to while pregnant could increase the chances of the child developing breast cancer, later on in life. This was evidenced by a recent study that assessed the effects of BPA (bisphenol-A) and DES (diethylstilbestrol) on the offspring of the pregnant mice. BPA and DES are commonly found in industrial products, such as plastic and canned goods, and are known to have a profound effect on gene expression in the mammary gland throughout life.

While BPA is a weak estrogen and DES a strong estrogen, both are harmful to the human body and are known to interfere with hormonal and metabolic processes, while disturbing neurological and immune function in people and animals alike. "As a hormones specialist, it is my duty to warn my patients on the dangers of consumer-based plastics containing BPA. You might feel healthy by carrying around your plastic water bottle, but the truth is you are ingesting BPA which could wind up disrupting your natural estrogen levels" shares Las Vegas bioidentical hormones expert Dr. Jack Anstandig.

Pregnant women might be putting their unborn children at risk, before they are even born. BPA and DES consumed during pregnancy can have devastating effects on the development of the breast and can lead to increased risks of developing breast cancer in adulthood. These conclusions were drawn from experiments performed on mice and will be published in June's issue of Hormones & Cancer, a journal of the Endocrine Society.
