Researchers drew blood samples from 266 women between the ages 20 and 49 and analyzed the levels of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) - a hormone produced by the ovaries. The blood was then analyzed twice more, at three-year intervals. The data helped scientists develop a prognostic model that turned out to be fairly accurate at determining when exactly a woman would start to experience symptoms of menopause - with an average margin of error around 4 months.

Although blood tests may one day have the capability of predicting precisely when the menopause is coming, for now women should trust their bodies to be the best judge.
