Manopause: Can aging men finally blame hormones too?

August 2011 - More and more men are coming to realize that the changes that they experience as they get older are in fact due to underlying hormonal imbalances. These hormonal imbalances are the result of a condition known as andropause or "male menopause." This hormonal decline is much different than the drastic loss of hormones that women experience during menopause and most men are unaware that they're hormones are to blame. The reason that most men don't realize these changes taking place is because they occur gradually over a period of time, usually beginning sometime between the ages of 35 and 45.
Symptoms of andropause are very similar to the symptoms women face during menopause - low libido, weight gain, fatigue, irritability, muscle loss and even hot flashes and night sweats. Fortunately, men can find relief from symptoms of andropause, using testosterone replacement therapy. By replacing the hormones that they lose over time, men can regain their youthful vitality and also improve their overall health.
If you think that you might be experiencing symptoms of male menopause, it would be best to discuss possible treatment options with your doctor. Most men notice a significant difference within the first few weeks of treatment.
