Is it… Perimenopause?

Is it… Perimenopause? | October, 2009
A recent article in an October issue of Prevention Magazine shed some light on menopause’s ugly sister… perimenopause. Also touted as “pre-menopause” or “early menopause”, perimenopause refers to the length of time between a woman’s final menstrual period and menopause. The average age that perimenopause will hit is said to be 47; however in some cases women begin experiencing symptoms of perimenopause as early as age 35. A lot like menopause, during perimenopause your hormones such as estrogen, testosterone and progesterone begin fluctuating rapidly and bring forth the onset of many unpleasant symptoms, ranging from irritating to debilitating. The article discuses some of the common symptoms of perimenopause such as vaginal dryness, low libido, irregular periods, mood swings and hot flashes and some simple ways that you can relieve symptoms through essential lifestyle improvements.
