Intense Diet and Exercise May Lessen Symptoms in Menopausal Women
Intense Diet and Exercise May Lessen Symptoms in Menopausal Women | July, 2010

A recent study at the University of California at San Francisco revealed an interesting reality involving menopause and exercise. They say that losing weight may help modestly reduce hot flashes. Hot flashes are common in menopausal women and include symptoms like sweatiness, redness in the face and a warm sensation throughout the body. The research suggests that the higher body mass index - the measurement of height and weight - the more prone menopausal women are to severe hot flashes.
Over a six month period, 338 menopausal women participated in a weight loss program. This program consisted of frequent exercise, monitored caloric intake, observed blood pressure and changes in overall mental and physical function. The study disclosed that there are no significant associations between changes in menopause symptoms and exercise. However, of the 338 women in the study, 141 found that they were less bothered by hot flashes once the study was over.
