Bald is Beautiful and May Lead to a Reduced Risk of Prostate Cancer | March, 2010
According an article recently published by Emax Health, studies conducted by researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the University of Washington School of Medicine suggests that men who experience male pattern baldness by age 30 have a significantly lower risk of developing prostate cancer. According to the study, premature hair loss in men (before 30) decreases a man's prostate cancer risk by 29 percent. Premature hair-loss in men is oftentimes the result of excess DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone produced by testosterone that causes thinning and shrinking of hair follicles. The article states that male pattern baldness affects 25 percent of men by age 30 and impacts 50 percent by age 50.
