June 2011 - A recent study has thrown a wrench in the idea that antidepressants may be a viable solution for menopause symptoms, particularly hot flashes. A previous study, focusing on the women's self-described symptoms, had found that the antidepressant Lexapro may ease hot flashes in menopausal women. However, when researchers from Wayne State University used technology to attempt to confirm these findings, the antidepressant showed no significant improvement in the frequency or severity of hot flashes. For this study, the researchers used a small device to identify hot flashes by measuring humidity on the skin.
