Adrenal Fatigue: Are We Burning Ourselves Out?

August 2011 - Adrenal fatigue is becoming ubiquitous in today's fast paced society. We're always on the move and we rarely give our bodies time to recuperate from the daily grind. Now medical experts are saying that our "go-getter" mentality may be putting our overall health in jeopardy. According to the article, more and more patients are suffering from burnout - they're tired all the time, but they can't sleep, their blood pressure is abnormal, they're using caffeine and sugar to get through the day and they have a general sense of feeling overwhelmed. These symptoms are very common in individuals suffering from an adrenal imbalance.
Adrenal fatigue occurs when the adrenal glands become overworked, either due to stress, lack of sleep, physical exertion or a combination of multiple factors. The body's natural physiological response to stress is facilitated by the release of the stress hormone, cortisol. Cortisol aids in our "fight-or-flight" response to stress. Nowadays, stress levels are at an all-time high, so many of us are producing more cortisol than our bodies can handle. When this happens, the result is "burn-out" or adrenal fatigue.
Adrenal fatigue is not something you have to live with for the rest of your life. There are many effective methods of treating the condition. One choice method used by many cutting edge physicians, is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). BHRT can help to balance hormones naturally and help alleviate symptoms of adrenal fatigue.
