Dr. Jennifer Landa of BodyLogicMD of Orlando Gives the Lowdown on Low-T on The Daily Buzz

Menopause, it’s not just for women anymore. No, men get it too! Here to explain just what this all means is Dr. Jennifer Landa of BodyLogicMD of Orlando. She has dedicated her practice to helping men and women combat the symptoms of aging and she’s here to talk about MAN-o-pause (andropause). This is something that people are seeing a lot about, ads for Low-T drugs along with the ED (erectile dysfunction) ads. Let’s back up and talk about what this is really is, male menopause, and what are some of the symptoms. A lot of the time, these guys are dragged in by their wives. They tell me that the guy is just not the same anymore – they are grumpy, moody, they feel tired, they can’t make it through the day, loss of libido (sex drive, erections), body changes – they feel like they are losing their muscle and getting a spare tire around the middle. A lot of them say they have “lost their edge.” And, when you see men hunched over – that’s osteoporosis (bone loss and fracture), loss of Testosterone. Some people say that this is another way for pharmaceutical companies to make money. BodyLogicMD does not use testosterone from the pharmaceutical companies, we prescribe natural, bioidentical testosterone. There are a lot of new treatments out there – testosterone combined with exercise. What are the risks with these treatments? There is more risk to not treating it. There are several studies that have come out showing that men with Low-T actually lead shorter lives. In the hands of a good practitioner who practices hormone therapy, testosterone therapy is safe and effective. Men have “he-MS” (like PMS), but they don’t cycle like we do so we don’t know when it’s coming – it’s slow and gradual. Most guys chalk it up to aging, but a lot of the time it’s due to Low-T.
