BodyLogicMD affiliated physician Dr. Bruce Thomas was recently featured in an ABC news segment discussing sleep and what you can do to get more of it. According to the report, studies show that 75 percent of U.S. adults aren't getting the sleep they need. How much is enough? According to Dr. Thomas, adults should be getting somewhere between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. And those of us who don't get enough sleep have a higher risk of obesity, substance abuse and diabetes.

Here is a list of factors that may prevent you from getting a full night's rest:

-Drinking alcohol before bedtime

-Eating before bedtime

-Stress

-Going to sleep and waking up at different times each day

-Hormonal imbalance

The segment also featured 47-year-old Kerry Pauley, a patient of Dr. Thomas who experienced difficulty sleeping at night. Dr. Thomas helped Pauley improve his sleep pattern using bioidentical hormone therapy and pharmaceutical grade supplementation. In addition to helping him sleep through the night, Pauley reported that the bioidentical hormones also gave him more energy during the day and that now wakes up feeling rested and refreshed.
