Tom Nestel began to suffer from severe fatigue in his 20s, which got worse as he moved into his 30s and 40s. For years he was being treated for depression and thyroid problems, but nothing seemed to help. He then sought out the help of Dr. Gary Gallo, who after performing blood tests and other tests, including a bone density test, figured out that Tom was losing testosterone and going through andropause. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, 4 million men may be affected by andropause. However, it is hard to diagnose because the symptoms, which include exhaustion, lack of mental sharpness, low sex drive, and weight gain, are subtle and allow men to continue on with their lives. Now with a diet change, supplements, and testosterone injections, Tom is able to lead a more active life.
